Meetups x Rootbeer float cake x Randoms

It's been a really long and busy (almost) 2 wks for me. Been meeting up w friends and of course, my dear boy. <3

I think i'm getting lazy t blog alrd, esp when i havent got time t. =/ But since i can slp till late tmr, i shall make time t do some late night blogging! (mega long post ahead! )

***

I stayed in sch t study a bit aft my class since i have a lot of time t spare, then headed over t town for some retail therapy before meeting them. Actually, my main purpose of going t town was t get this...
Hollyhoque's Dollhouse Sandals Wedges
I saw them on Sheila's IG and i was soooo tempted, esp when she said it's about 3" high, cos i didnt wanna get another wedge tt's too high so tt maybe i'll wear it more often. But sadly the measurements were ALOT higher than expected, its almost 5"! How t say no t nude pink shoes & wedges right? I gave in t my temptations =/

It was pretty affordable, only $34.50, and i was lucky enough t get the last pair! Almost all the sales staff said tt the blue one suits me better but i still ended up getting the nude. Think i have a really soft spot for nude shoes. Almost all my shoes are in nude shades! Love them cos its so versatile and so easy t match!

Almost all of the shoes i have (a few of them missing though, incl flip flops haha) Like a lot but like not a lot la hor? =/

So after shopping, i headed down t meet the clique for dinner. We went t have claypot rice at Alexandra Village cos alas has been raving about it and wanting t bring us there.

We ordered a 5pax portion, 2 soup and 1 plate of vege and it only added up t about $8/pax. It's sooo damn cheap can!
This picture definitely doesnt do any justice t how big the portion is and how worth it it is! They're really generous w the ingredients too!
Did you know tt there're actually steps t follow when you eat your claypot rice? I didnt until alas demonstrated t us. Lol. Whenever i eat claypot rice (which i havent in a long long time), i'll just stir everything tgt and start eating. But you're supposed t put the meat and all other ingredients onto another plate, pour dark soya sauce and oil and mix well w the rice. Idk why we have t remove the ingredients, maybe it makes it easier t mix? Or so tt we can taste the original taste of the ingredients? Haha

This stall is apparently quite popular for their claypot rice. Almost everyone at the hawker centre's eating the claypot rice! And most of them ordered bigger portions t share among the family.

We then headed t Chip Bee Gardens t have Daily Scoop for dessert. It's located opp the Holland Village area. I cant rmb if it's my first time there but i think so? And they have so many flavours! Didnt take much pics though cos i was trying t conserve batt and the group shots were in sarah's phone.
Ordered Kookie Monster & coconut.
I love both of them! The Kookie Monster reminded me of Jong Kook cos Kookie is one of his nicknames. Haha. Chocolate icecream + oreo = double the chocolateyness! The coconut is one of the closest substitute i found for Chatuchak's coconut icecream. The other substitute i've found is the one from Udders. Their icecream are one of the cheaper ones too i think? This double scoop costed me $5+ if im not mistaken. (:

Headed over t Rochester t chill at Starbucks. I agree w alas tt it used t be the best Starbucks outlet cos its so quaint and nice and quiet. But not anm i guess, esp after the opening of Star Vista, more and more people are aware of it and it's getting more and more crowded. ):

Love meetup sessions w them, reminiscing about the past and catching up on each other's lives. I've always thought tt it's not impt t have a lot of friends but having a few true friends is what it really matters. And i'm glad tt we've crossed each other's path during poly. This group of friends really added colours t my poly days. And i cant be more grateful for tt <3

We then made impromptu plans t head back t alas's house t get his car and go over t Marina Barrage. I'm so so so glad tt there wasnt class the next day (class on sat sucks big time!), cos we havent hung out till late for a really long time! And it was so rare for us t actually go over t Jurong. Lol

It was a really windy night over at Barrage. We wanted t fly kites but alas only has kites but no strings. It's weird how he always only has one part of a kite and not have the other, cos this it not the first time! Haha. So we ended up just sitting down, enjoying the breeze and cont talking about everything else.
View from Barrage, beautiful isnt it?
Bf was actually still at work by tt time, poor boy had t OT until almost 6am. He's not the only hardworking one though. We actually heard a group of army boys shouting and doing their road march cos their gonna have their POP on the very next morning! Yes, tt was how loud they were. And elysia's bf happen t be one of them! I wonder how i'll feel when bf enters army this yr ):

We both woke up early t have brunch tgt before bf reports for work again. Headed out like a walking zombie cos i only had almost 4 hrs of slp. But it was worth it, cos at least we both made time t meet each other, and it's been quite a while since we had breakfast menu for brunch!

Brought him t Maison Ikkoku. Came across this place on burpple and chanced upon it when i went t get some swiss rolls from Rich and Good Cake shop the other time. I've been wanting t go over for brunch ever since, but they only had all day breakfast on wkends, usually it's only until 11am.
This is the stretch of road you'll see before you reach Maison Ikkoku. It's actually at one of the shophouses beside the mosque, and opp Kampong Glam. (see the shop hse in white?)
Look at the crowd! It's full house! Thank god we made reservations, but we still had t wait for awhile cos we reached earlier. Yeap, tt's how full they were.
Brunch for 2
Caramel latte, $6.50. This has gotta be one of the best coffee we had! And for once, he didnt order normal latte! Haha. The caramel taste was really pleasant and not too sweet for our liking.
Eggs benedict, $18. (look at the flowing yolk!) I wanted t get the break of dawn but decided t stick t egg bens instead and i have totally no regrets! They used parma ham and sprinkled a bit of pepper which added more taste t it. Slightly diff from the usual egg bens cos the pepper gave a lil tint of spiciness. The parma ham was a lil chewy though, will prob try the one w smoked salmon during the next visit and see which combi is better!
French toast w salted caramel, $14. Boyfee couldnt decide on what t order and since we both were quite interested t try this, he decided t order it. It was a bit 'gelat' after eating and the bread's a lil hard and chewy for me. The walnuts made the whole combi taste a lil bitter, idk if its burnt or not. And the salted caramel isnt strong enough t bring out the flavour, which was unfortunately being covered by the bitterness. This was really filling as well. I wanted t get the red velvet cake but we both ended up being too full ):

I went next door t get some swiss rolls for mummy after brunch (she's been craving for the kaya rolls, again). Haha.
But i think we went too early (when they just opened for biz not long) and the rolls we bought werent really fresh, prob leftovers from the day before, cos the kaya cream doesnt look fresh anm ): So i think it's better t go later in the noon arnd 1pm or later? The aunties there are not very friendly either, and the swiss rolls increased in price as well, but bo bian, we still like their rolls. Haha. It's $7.50/kaya roll, prices vary depending on flavours, but mostly about tt price. (:
Noticed tt the kaya like 'shrunk' alrd? Not so gao one =/

We then walked over t Bugis Junction t get some ingredients for baking before we parted ways. ): Went home t get some rest and baked in the night while waiting for bf t come over. I kinda like the feeling though, waiting for him t come back from work, cooking maggi mee just in time for him t eat when he reaches. Haha. I think i sound damn housewife-y. =/

***

I didnt take much pics this time round cos i was feeling a lil tired and wanted t finish baking asap as well. Made root beer float cake this time round! Idk if its my oven or what, but i always have trouble baking whole cakes cos the middle part always takes ALOT longer t bake ):

Root Beer Float Cake

From Baked, New Frontiers in Baking

2 cups root beer (don’t use diet) (i used IBC rootbeer)
1 cup dark unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
Ingredients needed
Preheat even to 325 degrees F. Spray the inside of a 10-inch Bundt pan (or 2 round cake pans) with nonstick cooking spray, or butter generously and dust with flour, knocking out the excess.

In a small saucepan, heat the root beer, cocoa powder and butter over medium heat until butter is melted. Add sugars and whisk until dissolved. Remove from heat and let cool. (i'd suggest preparing the amount of sugars needed first before the heating up process cos you needa be stirring the mixture. and also, add in the sugar bit by bit and taste if its sweet enough for your preference. if you pour the full amt stated in the recipe it'll prob be too sweet!)

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.

In a small bowl whisk the eggs until just beaten. Then whisk into the cocoa mixture until combined. Gently fold the flour mixture into the cocoa mixture. The batter will be slightly lumpy. You can give it a quick whisk if you like, but don’t over beat the batter or it could cause the cake to be tough. Don’t worry, the batter is very loose.

How my batter looks like, it'll tend t be a abit lumpy.
Pour the batter into prepared pan and cook for 35-45 minutes (or 25-30 minutes for 2 cake pans), rotating the pan halfway through baking until a sharp knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely then loosen edges with a butter knife and turn out onto a cake plate. (I baked for a total of slightly over an hour, i think diff ovens will need diff baking time)
My cake always cracked at the top! Didnt keep an eye on it t put aluminum foil over it in time.
Chocolate Root Beer Frosting

2 ounces 60% cocoa, melted
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 teaspoon salt (you may want to use less… maybe just 1/2 teaspoon) (i think prob 1/4 tsp will be enough, i used 1/2 tsp and i managed t taste a lil bit of salt)
1/4 cup root beer
2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 1/2 cups powdered sugar (reduce the sugar amt according t your pref, i used about 1.5-2cups)

In the bowl of a stand mixer, or using an electric hand mixer, beat softened butter and cocoa powder. Once combined add the melted chocolate, salt, powdered sugar and root beer. Beat together until smooth. Spread on top of cooled cake. Slice and serve with vanilla ice cream. (keep the remaining refrigerated)

I cut away the top of the cake (the 'skin') cos im afraid tt it'll be abit hard. And frosting really covered up the flaws well! Haha
Final product, served w crunch icecream!
I'll prob add more rootbeer next time for a stronger flavour, cos i cant really taste the rootbeer. =/ The choc taste is pretty strong though, maybe cos i used Valrhona cocoa powder, which gives a really strong flavour.

The reason why bf came over tt night was bcos he's gonna accompany me t Ohvola's warehouse sales! Hehehe :D

He kept saying tt we shld go early so tt we wldnt have t wait so long but we both were tired and i thought we shld get a lil more rest since he still had t work in the evening. And he was so right! I thought we're early when we reached at arnd 9.10am, when the sales starts at 10am. But when we arrived, there was alrd a longggg queue! Some of them actually went as early as 8am. OMG

But thank god for bf's company, time passed really fast! And i think the queue moved quite fast as well, given tt it's their first warehouse sales, though i've saw others complained about the waiting time.
The crowd before i left, and this was only like dunno how many % of the queue
Loots from the sales! Totally damage: $43. Think this is the most satisfied one i've been t. And also the cheapest! At least their clothes are all self manufactured and they sold it even lower than other warehouse sales by other blogshops whose clothes arent even self manu, like lacepipe! Worst i've been t, totally waste of time!

We celebrated our 25th mth tgt last mon! <3
I feel really blessed tt he came into my life. Even though i had doubts at the very beginning and i'm sure pp arnd do as well, i'm really glad tt we managed t overcome obstacles one after another, and came t where we are now. (:

Had a simple dinner at Nam Nam Noodle Bar. Have been visiting Cityhall area very frequently since it's one of the nearest place from MBS tt we can have dinner after his work. And since i've been seeing pretty good reviews about Nam Nam Noodle Bar and we havent really tried Vietnamese food before, we decided t have sth diff for a change!

Reached about 6.30pm and there was alrd a queue! Surprisingly there were quite a number of angmohs dining there too, so i suppose its really good?
Menu
Different condiments provided
We ordered the so ever popular vietnamese iced coffee w condensed milk, $2.50. I've always heard tt vietnamese coffee is a must try, but this was a lil too thick for me. Bf likes it though.
I ordered the popular vietnamese noodles, Pho beef steak slices, $8.90, and additional beef balls, $2.50. For those who cant eat beef, they also have a chicken version. This is really good! I'm quite particular when it comes t beef/steak cos i absolutely dislike those tough or chewy kind. But this was so soft and tender it doesnt feel like you're eating beef at all (in a good way). Haha. And the lime (i think it's lime and not lemon) makes the soup really refreshing. I finished almost the whole bowl of soup cos it was so good and addictive and no MSG! Peppery yet refreshing, very interesting taste, and i really like it for a change. (just in case you're wondering why my bowl looks so 'plain', cos i asked for it w/o coriander. i hate the taste of it =/ )
Bf ordered Dry yellow curry duck noodle, $8.90. Sounds abit weird uh? But its actually not too bad! Not tt spicy, still acceptable for me. But one thing i dont like about eating duck meat is tt they're usually not boneless. =/

I think the prices are generally reasonable for sth in town and the food is definitely worth the price paid! Explains why there's a queue and even angmohs go there for vietnamese food. Haha

Do drop by if you're keen t have sth diff for a change or if you've had vietnamese food and want sth authentic. I think this is pretty authentic cos the staff are all vietnamese, though i havent tried authentic food from vietnam itself. Maybe i shld plan a trip there uh? :D

On a side note, i've stocked up my polaroid films!
Almost $200 worth of films. I bought 4 boxes of plain and 1 box of hello kitty. (:
Bought in bulk w a few friends so it's cheaper. It was $75 for 10boxes when i saw on sat but when i went down t get them the price changed t $78 for 10 boxes. Uber saddddd ): But nonetheless, this is prob the cheapest i've found for polaroid films and i wanna share this place w you!

You can visit their website and purchase online. www.passiongadgets.com

You can opt for postage or self collection, or you can just head down t their showroom t purchase them. Tt's what i did, and i regretted not carting out then opt for self collection. But i guess this kinda things really unpredictable one bah. =/ There're directions stated on the website, the showroom is actually very near Macpherson MRT. And they sell kites there too as well! So if you wanna buy kites you can drop by as well (:

Met up w shirley on wed, havent met her for ages! Someone once told me tt true friends are those tt even if you dont meet for a very long time, you'll still have tons of things t talk about and zero awkwardness when you meet them after a long time. And i think it's so true! We still have neverending stuff t talk about, and updating each other on our lives. <3

I read about Steam Sia on someone's and we decided t have dinner there since it looks really old school and she wanted t try the chicken curry there.
Who wld have expected a place like this t be found in Little India area?
Look at all the old school stuff!
Childhood fav snacks and games, and guess what? You're gonna love what i'm gonna say next. ALL THESE ARE FREE OF CHARGE! (as long as you dine in)
Doesnt the chair remind you of your granny's house?
NOKIA PHONES! Brings back memories dont they?
My all time fav! Even until now! One of the reason why i love this place. Haha
The lighting's there was quite bad so our curry looked super black =/
We ordered curry for 2 t share. This is one of their signature dishes. The other would be tomyum pasta. But since we wanted t have 2nd round at Swee Choon we decided t not order too much so we had space for 2nd round. Lol. The curry is not like the usually curry, theirs is slightly more watery and not too spicy. It's actually alright for me. Think its sth like asam curry. The portion was actually quite big, w lotsa potatoes and chicken! In the end we were so full, plus we kept munching on the snacks! =/
I think Steam Sia will be a good place t visit if you're meeting a group of friends, you can chill and play the games they have there! There're lots of childhood games, we played snap, and i honestly dont rmb seeing those cards before even though i've played the game. Haha. Plus their prices are very pocket-friendly too. Bill added up t about $16 each (we ordered curry chicken for 2, honey lemon and vanilla peach tea).

Camwhored a bit before leaving for Swee Choon.
Was trying t capture the background but failed. Haha
Idk why my face looks so round and i look so fat ): (in TTR's Dreamcatcher top & TVD's leather shorts in oxblood)

We were too full so we decided t walk arnd Mustafa t digest abit first. Think tt day i really ate ALOT, a lot more than usual. I'm amazed i can still eat at Swee Choon after tt, but i really felt like i was about t explode after eating. Lol. Walking arnd tt area's abit scary and dangerous though, esp aft the raping incident =/ So after awhile we headed t Swee Choon and shirley kept saying there'll be queue but luckily there wasnt!
Ordered grass jelly, dou miao, golden tofu and custard buns. My must orders are the tofu and custard buns! But shirley didnt really fancy the tofu. She's the first i know who didnt like it! =/
Custard flowwww~ I think i have numerous pics of custard buns in my phone sia.

Last shot before we bidded our goodbyes
Polaroids taken tt day (only 2 cos i only had 2 films left ): )
And my belated xmas present from by dearest friend! Felt so bad tt i didnt get anything for her ): Will definitely bring this along whenever i travel and make boyfee use my leopard prints one! Hehehe

I think im almost done w my CNY shopping. Have like 3 sets of clothes alrd! At least i dont have t stress tt i cant find nice ones. Got 2 dresses, 1 shorts and 1 top. I hate it when im in between sizes! Always dunno which size t get. Maybe i shld aim t lose more weight so tt i'll be able t fit the smaller size w no worries ):

Shall end off the post w pictures of the stuff i bought for CNY and also some random eats from the past wk. I'm soooo dreading class tmr, the cycle's gonna start again. SIGH!

Have a good wk ahead you peeps! (:
Florenze frock in pink (M)
Megagamie pintuck flare dress in blue (M)

Oreo mille crepe
Vanilla mille crepe. Got these from Ion B4 (First Love) and they were so good! The best i've ever had! So soft and creamyyyy. But a lil pricey though, got it for 2 for $12. One is selling at $6.50.
Breakfast at my fav traditional confectionary, chin mee chin confectionary. So sad they didnt have the choc cupcakes tt day! Love their choc cupcakes!
